This article is to inform people of where to get LOW COST spay and neuter done in Lane and Linn Counties of Oregon, and in a timely manner.
In 2022 my mom and I embarked on getting about 28 of my aunt's cats fixed and rehomed after she developed alzeimers and parkinsons. Only 2 of them were already fixed. This happened during a time when the lowEST cost clinic Willamette Animal Guild (WAG) was not taking in any more patients. Only the small town clinics were willing to work with us on this overwhelming situation, not charging us for a pre-exam. A Pre-exam is nice but not affordable when trying to get this many cats fixed. I called all the Eugene and Springfield clinics and told them the situation and they were unwilling to give us a reasonable rate. 1st Ave spay/neuter clinic has low rates but can be long wait times.
The clinics who helped us:
-Brownsville vet was doing spays for us for $130. -Oregon Mobile Vet did neuters for $65. They don't do spays. No appointment needed. -South Willamette Vet in Creswell does $65 feral cat spays. Tame cat was $200. -Sweet Home vet spayed 4 girls in the same day and it was $200 each. -Feral Cat Coalition in Portland was going to fix all the cats for free but it was going to be a couple months wait so we could not do it because all these females were running around loose with the males. My mom had to fix up the chicken coop/cattery and we figured out who all the girls were and put them in there.
Mom and I worked as a team. She paid for the surgeries and I created the online adoption application and did the advertising of the cats. Mom did the phone interviews. We did not send a single cat to a shelter. I found 4 foster homes, and one cat went to Crux Gym which has an animal rescue there. We were able to get my aunt's cats adopted in 3 months time! Except for the cat at Crux. But she did end up getting adopted.
Thanks to everyone involved: -the people who donated money towards the spay and neuters. -the fosters...what would we have done without you. -the adopters -Sara who donated cat food -my friends who advertised on CL for me when CL wouldn't let me advertise any more. ---Crux Gym for giving us 2 neuter appts at 1st ave clinic, & for fostering Odette. -Natalie in Brownsville for medicating cats for us and helping morn of spays.
Luckily none of the cats were pregnant at the time of their spay. It was Oct when we got involved with the cats. There were kittens running around that were from multiple litters. Amazingly none of the cats tested positive for FIV or leukemia.
I don't get animals fixed at Greenhell because they banned me from volunteering probably because they didn't like that I had video footage of the many adoptable animals that they were killing. I made videos for advertising purposes to try to get pets adopted before they were euthenized. I was a volunteer at Lane County Animal Services and Greenhill a combination of 7 yrs.
