OUR VIEW
Our view when we have our pets euthenized;
We only see their body die.
But what their view is;
They woke up and feel lightweight,
They might not even understand the concept of “death”, because they might not even know what happened to their body,
All they feel is that they are very much alive.
And then they carry on with their life,
Just as they have been,
Except now they are free,
And have choices,
-They might stay with their owner a while,
Or go right to heaven.
If we could just feel a fraction of their happiness and joy, then we would be excited about the wonderful amazing life they are experiencing.

UNTOLD STORY
Who is the innocent one they are eating today?
My mind is wandering again,
Into the place that she lived-
The small world that didn’t even have the courtesy of graveyards,
I am left wandering here,
Wondering who she was,
What was her personality like?,
All I can know is she was very precious,
With a unique personality,
More than just “someone”,
She was special,
And all she wanted was a stress-free life,
But looking at her now, I cannot see who she was- everything about her has been ripped away,
And her story has been untold,
Because no one ever saw her value,
No one saw value in life,
Only the other victims around her did,
Who were silenced in torture too.
Her story remains untold,
Because no one likes to discuss nightmares,
Or think of the disturbed look that was in her eyes all her life,
But God listened to her story,
Because he loves everyone he created,
He probably didn’t want to see man torture her,
And take away all her joy she would have had in a normal life,
But he didn’t look away,
Because that wouldn’t change anything,
He didn’t look away because he loved her,
And after the life of suffering and the agony of torture,
He took her to heaven,
To have a life there that she should have had on earth.

LOVE?
Sometimes we question if animals really love,
But then I remind myself of all the situations I’ve seen;
Like when Salem the cat would sit by Jimmy’s grave,
Or when a duck put his wing over his mate’s dead body to protect her (She had been shot by a hunter),
Or how elephants bury their family members bones,
Or how animals will stay with their owners after they have crossed over,
Or how animals give kisses,
Or the story of the cat that stayed by her rabbit-friend’s side while she was very ill,
Or how the mother cows at dairy farms call to their calves and grieve when they are taken away from them,
Or how pets grieve when their owners die,
If that is love,
Which seems to be pure and genuine,
Then that says a lot,
That says a lot about other emotions too,
Considering that they are animals just like we are animals who have emotions,
And have many of the same organs,
(We just happen to have a voice box to explain our feelings)
So it would make sense that they feel love like we do.
Sometimes, animals are there to show you what love is when the people around you have lost it.

In a World Disconnecting
A woman asked a man, “You seem like a sad person.
Why are you sad?”
The man replied, “Because I still love. Because I still feel. But I want to live this way.”,
Unlike him, a lot of us try to take the easy route through life and avoid feeling, caring, or loving,
To keep ourselves from getting hurt when something terrible goes wrong,
But what seems to hurt us just as much or even more is living our partly empty life,--
Missing all the important lessons and special messages that come through other lives,
Things that are inspiring.
In trying to avoid pain, we let others hurt when they need us,
And we won’t see it because we have disconnected our feelings.
Yes, avoiding pain seems like the smart and logical way,
But pain is something that just has to be felt in order for us to stay human,
And a lot of times we will learn something greater out of it,
It only seems right for us to not disconnect ourselves from emotions,
And not be part of the empty chain reaction around the world.

Why people don’t care
They don’t know what it’s like to die in horrible ways,
They haven’t thought about it,
So they dust it off, and forget about it,
Because they aren’t the one suffering,
They tell themselves, “It’s not that bad”,
The reason people don’t care is because they don’t have empathy.

THE LAND OF THE HOPED
When he fell asleep that night, he had a dream,
He was taken to a different place,
It was a place that had an atmosphere of light—
There were other people there,
And their faces were bright with happiness and love,
They were smiling and laughing,
And in the moment.
There were people of different ages,
Mothers and Fathers were appreciating their children,
And having fun with them,
There were also animals there,
That were playing,
And their faces were gleaming with happiness because others loved them and respected them,
Everyone respected each other,
And you could see the light of love in their spirits,
And it surrounded them.
He felt like this place was not in the present time, but in another.
While he was amongst everyone,
He heard a voice say, “They are the hoped. They still hope.”
Then he suddenly awoke,
And realized that it was all in his head.
He chose to see those people as an example,
And began to live with that dream in mind,
He’d close his eyes and remember that beauty,
And the light the people had created.
He would never accept the hurt in the world as “O.K.”,
His actions would reach out to others,
To create more hope,
And the others who began to believe the same, would gradually turn their own places in the world,
Into The Land of the Hoped.

MORE AND MORE
The more I learn about farm animals,
And all the different things they like to do,
-All the things that make them enjoy life,
And how much personality they each have,
And then think about how it is for them in a slaughterhouse,
How everything about their life has been taken away,
And left empty,
And they are frightened, bored, and confused,
Confused at why they are in this small dark world,
The more my heart breaks,
At the serious reality of these slaughterhouses,
And the death of the gift of life.

CHOICE AFFECT
I am so ashamed
At the lack of thought of the human race,
That nations actually kill people of other nations to get their way
They put the power of something so huge in their mere hands,
When the nations could settle it in another way without murder,
But instead they take lives,
With no thought of it.
I am deeply saddened at the thought of when at grocery stores, everywhere you turn there are huge amounts of things that are products of suffering,
And broken stolen lives,
That humans think it’s ok to have that great power,
And people buy all the products at no thought,
While showing their children not to think about it either,
Not think of the value and preciousness of life,
Of all others.
Humans label animals as “not smart”,
But are people the ones that are not allowing themselves to learn and find inspiration in others?
When we choose to listen to all other breathing beings,
And see what the truths are behind their quiet faces,
We can all become teachers for each other,
Nonviolently showing with examples and sincerity,
Inspiring and connecting,
Making a giant web expanding,
Opening minds and hearts,
To learn, love, and respect,
And see value in life again.

MAYBE
Today I thought, “I never want him to leave me and go to heaven”,
But maybe by someone leaving, it causes me to reach out and learn from others,
Maybe if no one ever left us, then we would be so comfortable being with someone, that we would never look to anyone else,
We would just kind of be stuck,
Stuck in one place as time went by.
Though I will always love the ones who go to heaven,
I can still learn from all the others that will come into this life,
And we will be each other’s teacher,
-Imperfect, but perfectly.

SILENT FILMS
What if like in silent films
We only got the chance to say what was important and meaningful to our story,
What if all the babbling was cut out and we were straightforward,
So we’d have to think before we talked, as we sat alone and quietly clarifying our thoughts about a subject,
Would we speak of things to others more accurately?
What if like in silent films
Our expressions on our face and our gestures were more telling,
Us expressing our emotions more often,
Would we all become more genuine?
What would we look like if we were being watched as a silent film as we act like we do NOW?
I don’t think the world would make much sense.

BEAUTIFUL STRANGER
I had a feeling like we were suppose to meet,
At first I didn’t know why,
All I knew was I appreciated you so much,
For once in a long time you made me feel like I was wanted,
I felt like I had someone to be with, someone to share life with,
To walk with,
It felt right having someone by my side,
Just to be with,
I suddenly remembered again what it felt like,
You decided to love me in the only two days we were together,
All of this showed what powerful things can be projected in silence,
Saying no words at all.
When I started to worry about you, when we had to separate,
I was in hell,
Because after I brought you to the humane society thinking that S.A.R.A. was going to definitely take you,
I found out that the manager of the shelter would be doing an exception by letting S.A.R.A. adopt you,
I began to wonder what could be the lesson or point in this hell I was going through,
But your owners did come for you,
And even two people had read my posters on the street and wanted to adopt you so you wouldn’t die,
And I have now realized why we were probably suppose to meet-
To see that people do care,
They will respond to posters,
And that I can help the other dogs that deserve to live just as much as you.

MORE THAN IMPULSE
They say that most people have the same opinions as the people around them,
So when something damaging comes into society it seems it is easily accepted,
Is that why the Nazis ended up treating people like they were nothing?
Is that why Grandma got into drinking alcohol so much?
It started out innocent, but then ruined her whole life and her relationships with her family,
Where her own daughter can’t explain what her real personality was like,
All her friends were drinking,
Making her fall back,
Could it have happened this way with her smoking too?
The smoking that took her body,
What happens when people don’t have their own opinions?
Is this why humans buy millions of emotionally hurt and physically tortured animals to eat?
Is this why we act alike talk alike
Does it make it easy and comfortable to exist?
Is this who we are, or have we not yet assessed our own thoughts?
I feel like everything sacred is going down the drain, like the value of life,
Having everyone else’s thoughts can numb feelings,
So I hope that everyone in the world will pause and take a step back,
And then move forward,
Seeing what is genuinely theirs,
Feeling what they once said they’d be,
Or assessing what they’ve always said,
It is SO important,
That if everyone around the world opened their minds
And believed and learned what they thought they should,
It could affect the future,
It could affect now,
It could create so much peace,
And welcome us back to love.

HOPE IN PROGRESS
I am starting to have hope
That there will be less suffering of farm animals in the years ahead,
As my generation chooses to educate themselves and has a young open mind,
Willing to think and feel.
How beautiful this world would be if everyone chose to have a young and open mind and let go of their judgments about issues and people, -things that they have held onto for years,
It would be beautiful,
But I am counting on this generation,
And counting on this generation to teach their children,
Teach peace and respect, and thankfulness for all the precious and valuable things,
And teach them to always stay open,
Just imagine how many lives could be worth living,
-People’s and animal’s.

WHEN TIME IS FORGOTTEN, IT LASTS
I wish that people wouldn’t say they are to busy to do special things,
You can be busy doing chores any day, but rare events are just rare,
They’ll be looking back at all the opportunities they’ve missed year after year, again and again,
Missing special times with people they cared about- something that would have been important to the relationship,
They will promise their kids something to give them hope, and then break their promise later,
Their child is hurt again and again,
And cannot trust promises from anyone through their life,
All those times when someone was busy left them terribly achingly lonely,
Lonely, that’s what happens to everyone when people are to busy,
When people say they are to busy life passes them by,
Day after day turns into year after year,
It just flies by,
And others die.
I think what the world needs is everyone to start to weigh what is more important,
And forget about time sometimes,
I think it would make us more sensitive people,
When we aren’t worrying about what time it is,
Then it would bring us all closer again.

HE DIDN’T AVOID THEM
He didn’t dislike people because they did things that he didn’t agree with,
Like people that were alcoholics, smoked or had a drug addiction, or other habits that hurt their family,
Because he knew that everyone is victim to the world’s problems,
We all can be persuaded and slip into it,
And sometimes when they need out of it, they have trouble getting out on their own,
And maybe we need to show them what they can do,
Otherwise they’d be alone and keep getting in deeper,
Deeper into their gambling, or deeper into an abusive relationship or deeper into depression,
Maybe we need to go against the tide,
And bring someone back to their life,
Before they drown.

to where I never forget,
how precious all of creation is.

The Woman Who Passed Them By
There was a woman who cared about pets and was observant of nature and animals. She was given many special opportunities to help animals and their guardians.
Sometimes when she was driving down the road she’d see a dog walking without a guardian, who was at risk of getting hit by a car. Not feeling like doing anything about it, she would say, “Oh he probably lives right at that house. He’s fine.” Other times she saw a stray dog, she’d say, “Someone will pick him up.” But quite possibly the next people driving behind her said the same thing or didn’t even notice or care.
One day she went to the fair with a friend. They were looking at all the rabbits in the cages that had been in the rabbit show. Her friend pointed out to her that there was a wooly rabbit in a plastic enclosed cage and was suffering horribly from heat exhaustion. She’d never seen a rabbit that looked that hot before. It was very hot that day. If no one did anything to help him he was going to die. The woman didn’t want to deal with it then, so she and her friend walked away. There were people standing by the cage talking to each other and laughing, totally unaware. Who knows if anybody ended up noticing the rabbit’s misery that day. He probably died. Whoever put him in that cage didn’t even think about how hot it would get inside.
One day the woman’s daughter found a kitten on the street. Her daughter took care of the kitten and loved the kitten. And the kitten loved the daughter and became attached to her just within several days. Then the woman didn’t want the kitten around anymore so she decided to take her to the pound. There was only one other cat at the pound and the kitten was put in the same kennel. During the next ten years the daughter hoped of seeing the cat again. Every time she saw a black and white cat she would look at her markings to see if it could be her grown up cat. Ten years later the daughter learned that in the past that pound was a horrible place with an awful manager that had animals killed all the time. Who knows if the kitten lived. Who knows if the cat is even still alive ten years later.
The woman liked to be positive about these situations. It was the easiest thing to do. But being positive all the time can actually be a bad thing.

We Are Mothers and Fathers
We become mothers and fathers in the face of our children and animals,
When we take them in,
We are living life because we are nurturing life,
Their emotions are penetrating us as we watch their joy every day,
So we have reason to get up out of bed every morning, Because they do,
We have become just a part of them,
We are feeling the subtle energy of light inhabit us because we have decided to love them unconditionally and eternally.
We are born repeatedly as we become mothers and fathers again and again and again,
Throughout our years,
Deciding to lay out our love,
And hopefully, it will lead us to start having new sisters and brothers,
Strangers, but welcomed newly by us.

A Broken Bottle
Today at a protected wildlife area
Shards of a broken bottle lay next to a trash can,
It reminds me of all the troubling issues that have damaged our spirits,
All the issues that we are simply one step near from changing,
We just need to listen again to what we do really care about,
And open our feelings,
And try not dust off the issue again,
But wear it around,
As we decide to make a new step that will get us up and affect people, non-human animals, or the earth,
And other people will see your renewed compassion,
And be affected or touched by it,
Reawakening something they had forgotten about some time ago,
Maybe since they were a child,
And it will spread,
As if we are healing medicine,
As more and more people start to make a small step towards something they aren’t going to ignore anymore.
Our one simple action will lead us to other steps on our way.
We are relying on each other,
The more people there becomes, the easier it is,
If we all take a small step,
And use our time and ourselves like healing medicine.

Estranged
I feel like I’ve become estranged from the world not meaning to,
Around groups of people I get afraid not knowing what they might talk about - insulting and gossiping about people who are good people,
Or what horrible things they’ve done to animals,
While they all laugh, because they don’t understand,
As I am hurting,
By myself, that is how I feel,
I keep quiet,
Out of distrust,
Not knowing who to trust,
Not knowing who is sensitive enough,
To tell my thoughts and listen to theirs,
I admit, I feel like an out of place stranger,
That smiles and niceties cannot hide.
If you ever meet someone who people think is quiet,
The one who is easy to overlook,
You might want to take note, because you might be someone that they’ve been waiting for.
Try to not ignore the ones who seem to be quiet,
They are the ones who have a lot to say.

It wasn't necessarily in a negative or positive way,

Looking back, if she would have tried to be like everyone else, all the things she had done and all her accomplishments wouldn’t exist,

Because she would have had nothing to share besides other people’s thoughts mirroring back at them,
And when she died, what she would have left behind would have been invisible, no one would have known who she really was.

It seems like we often remember the difficult life someone we loved had towards the end of their life,
Their struggle tends to repeat in our minds,
Even for years,
Like an old film reel running over and over in a dark room,
But what is more important to remember is that they have already moved on with their life in heaven,
So why should we keep living in their past,
And living in pain,
When that is no more,
Because they want us to be happy,
Enabling them to be happy and enjoy their life more.

And when money has something to do with helping creatures survive, the cost of money seems so mere and inferior that it is hardly visible,
Like when paying a little bit more at the grocery store for organic foods,

My Life and Yours
My life should never burden me,
If I let it become a burden, I will not be living my life anymore, I will be waiting,
My life should always be full of opportunities,
Even if most of them are small but hugely important ones that I need to take advantage of,
I have a million choices in my lifetime,
And I am free,
The choices don’t have to be a big long term thing,
They are individual things that unfurl day by day,
Sometimes opening up a path that I couldn’t have predicted,
I am a woman who has power,
Even if I don’t have money I will have will,
I have the opportunities,
To make a chain reaction,
That is part of my power,
And I will not use it to control,
Like people like to take control with dog’s leashes,
I will only use this to protect them from harm,
That’s its only true purpose,
I will not use up my energy for unimportant drama,
Because if I do I won’t have any energy left for what is very important,
For what needs to be done,
I will not waste my time and energy trying to be someone else,
It will gain me and you nothing,
I have a million things to do,
But I cannot let it overwhelm me.
I am a woman of tragedy and joy,
I need to remember the tragedy so I can have balance in reality,
I am a woman who is capable,
I can find information about anything,
And my faithfulness to this makes me capable.
I am powerful, capable, free, and have a million choices,
And if I also have love that needs nothing mirroring back,
I don’t need anyone or anything to make me feel like a woman.
My life is much bigger than myself,
It’s like rain that is touching everything around it,
And it will go in whichever direction we choose the wind to blow it.

WHAT YOU MEAN
Inspiring me and keeping the life in me,
That is what you do,
Giving me a reason to get out of bed every morning,
And you make me thankful for the days,
-You remind me how important my life is,
And remind me how important your life is to you,
So it’s the same for all other creatures.
When I come to you,
You always welcome me into the moment,
And together, you make US in the moment,
Because you have no concept of time,
Which is part of keeping the life in you,
And me,
So you only bring beautiful moments to me,- to us,
Where everything else either fades away,
Or I can think about what’s on my mind and the answers or realizations come,
When we are in calming times.
Sometimes when you are being playful and free, it awakes my spirit with laughter or just pure happiness,
And that life in you keeps this room with a pleasant atmosphere,
One you can feel when you walk in,
Inspiring me with life and love,
And by loving you I was brought back to my real self.
Though you are silent,
Your presence is strong in this place,
And everything you have to tell is said in your eyes,
And I will always look to them,
And listen,
So that I never start to forget your lessons that I will always need in life.

ALL OF THIS
I want to see the day all day,
I want to be free and spontaneous,
I want to see the full moon before the day is over,
I want to watch the paintings in the sky transform all day,
I want to be amazed,
I want to feel the atmosphere,
And feel emotions,
I want to dream,
I want to think,
I want to hear how well the music goes with the scenery,
I want to have thank yous for the days,
I want to experience the days and not miss them,
I want to be in awe of the common amazing beauty,
I don't want to lose sight

Our Responsibility
We must take responsibility
For the actions of people
Who are irresponsible for animals’ well being,
There is no place for, “It’s not my place.”
Because life is to precious
To trade in for our own comfort
